Candidate will be responsible for overseeing the designing, development, testing, and evaluation of complex electronics packages (both ground and space based) for existing and upcoming products and seeing the process from concept through production and test. Candidate must be able to develop and evaluate approaches to meeting customer requirements with a strong focus on reliability and risk mitigation techniques. Candidate will be a part of the development team that primarily develops specialized communications products for government, military, and commercial customers.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and when necessary generate requirements from customer documents and meetings
  • Select materials and processes to meet customer specifications
  • Assist in the definition of design path and evaluate designs against requirements
  • Identify risks and provide mitigation strategies
  • Define accelerated life testing criteria based on detailed calculations
  • Work closely with software and RF engineers to develop overall product
  • Design circuits at the schematic level and work closely with CAD designers to produce board layouts
  • Direct Test mechanical systems to verify functionality and provide corrective action as necessary
  • Assist in the development of production-level tests
  • Support transition to production
  • Perform failure analysis on highly complex systems
  • Document and analyze test and failure analysis results
  • Participate in product design reviews and customer meetings to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems
  • Assist in creating cost estimates for related activities
  • Direct a small team of Jr. Mechanical Engineers

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

 

Required:

  • Possess active security clearance
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely allied field
  • 10+ years’ experience in electronics packaging design
  • Experience in design of space qualified systems
  • Strong experience in the design of high reliability packages
  • Familiarity with CAD/FEA programs such as Solidworks and ANSYS (CFX & Mechanical)
  • Extensive knowledge of thermal mitigation techniques and their applications in electronics packaging
  • Experience in transitioning designs into manufacturing and test
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to mentor and Supervise Junior Engineers
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office software products

 

Desired:

  • Direct experience in the mechanical design of RF systems
  • Supervisory experience of 3+ subordinates
  • Experience with CAD/FEA programs such as Solidworks and ANSYS (CFX & Mechanical)

 

Potential Tasks:

  • Software Defined Radio ground based chassis design
  • Software Defined Radio space based chassis design
  • Technical management of a team of engineers
