Responsibilities

The KeyW Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial Specialist with direct support to our subsidiary, Aeroptic, LLC. Aeroptic provides aerial imagery and flight operation services throughout the world.  This position will be a part of a fast-paced dynamic Operations team reporting to one of our Field Support Representatives (FSRs).  This is a non-exempt on demand position that requires the ability to rapidly travel to different locations throughout the United States.  Some international travel may also be required.

 

The Geospatial Specialist will be responsible for contributing and assisting in all aspects of aerial remote sensing operations for our commercial customers. As a Geospatial Specialist, you will work closely with FSR’s and members of the Engineering Department while developing skills in sensor building, testing and integration onto fixed-wing aircraft (EO/IR, LiDAR, Hyperspectral).  Additionally, this position is responsible for working closely with pilots and collection managers to oversee the successful collection of aerial imagery. This will also include flying onboard the aircraft when required. This position offers a unique introduction into operational aspects of a commercial aerial image provider, and will allow the recipient a chance at hands on training in multiple disciplines important to the industry

 

Due to the nature of the travel and collection operations, this position will require extensive flexibility in work schedule while on a scheduled “on duty” rotation. This position requires employees to come in for a 90 day “on duty” rotation to followed by 90 days of an, “off duty” rotation.  Employees are only paid while “on duty”. 

 

Responsibilities:

  •  Collect airborne data using various remote sensing systems (EO / IR, LiDAR).
  • Work closely with the team in North Andover, MA to discuss collection area assignments and mission planning.
  • Perform QC checks of data post-mission for quality and completeness.
  • Collect, upload or ship data daily to North Andover, MA after collection.
  • Ensure safe and secure installation of all sensor equipment into the aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot sensors and replace high level parts as needed.
  • Complete necessary field reports and provide detailed feedback about the status of the sensors.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Interest in GIS, Remote Sensing, Optical Sensors, LiDAR  
  • Understanding of GPS survey methods and use of a GPS base station.
  • Ability to effectively communicate via phone / computer detailed descriptions of sensor failures or mission failures on a timely basis.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and computer networks.
  • Comfortable flying in small aircraft for a minimum of 5 hours.
  • Troubleshooting knowledge, decision making skills, and the ability to solve complex problems.
